Albums of 2022

This is a list I made back at the end of last year, updated solely for the purposes of kicking off the blog on this page. 2022 felt like a really strong year for music in a way that 2023 has yet to.

While I try not to include music made by people I work with, it was impossible not to include three here that genuinely hit my musical year like a steam train.

No particular order to these - just the ten I loved the most at the time.

Rosalía - Motomami

Absolutely fell in love with this record while on tour over the summer of last year when posters of the artwork were all over Mainland Europe.

Rolo Tomassi - Where Myth Becomes Memory

A band i’ve be privileged to tour with a fair bit through both this album cycle and the previous one. This album goes so hard, but has a careful, gentle, melodic intent scattered throughout that Rolo Tomassi have really tapped in to in a very special way in their more recent work. It’s spectacular.

Charli XCX - Crash

Songs off this record just ended up soundtracking some really key moments throughout 2023. Charli knows how to write a banger, and while it’s not my favourite record of hers, its become stitched in to some important 2022 memories.

Muna - Muna

Some real smashers at the front end of this record that have made their way on to a stack of my playlists.

Ithaca - They Fear Us

Another really exceptional heavy record that just gets better as it goes on. Front to back absolute rippers.

Holy Fawn - Dimensional Bleed

Feels delicately crafted in a way that is tricky to achieve with many heavy records. A sonic bath.

Chloe Moriondo - SUCKERPUNCH

Absolutely my favourite pop record of the year. A diverse hop around the genre, but always with bite. Love the occasionally sugary, occasionally sharp production.

Birds In Row - Gris Klein

A real grower from a band I never thought i’d get in to for some reason. The middle and back end of this album are some of the best moments for me. Feels like a record that needs playing live in its entirety, and it would feel entirely natural to do so.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Cool it Down

This record is bonkers in some of the best ways. Really great songs but I also love how it jumps around across the full spectrum of what Yeah Yeah Yeahs are as a band. A surprise return to what I love about them, but in a refreshing way.

Cavetown - worm food

I feel so much about this record. It is a perfectly crafted, beautiful, heartbreaking and endlessly warm record that has become an enormous part of my professional life but that I take home for myself. It’s a forever record.
